Various types of components exist with universal upgrades (such as gemstones) which can be put in any equipment and offering lesser bonuses than those which are type-restricted. Jewels however are only able to be put in trinkets and offer higher bonuses than other upgrade item.
There are also inscriptions, which are unique upgrade items that are only placed in a trinket, and can be used to increase an experience multiplier. These can be very useful for min/maxing a character because they are relatively cheap to obtain, but they are not stacked with other experience modifiers.
Infusions can be incorporated into non-ascended armor and legendaries as well as other non-legendary items. You can recover them by using the tool to extract them or salvaging them with the Ascended Rescue Tool. It is important to remember that upgrading an item using infusions will result in the item displaying a unique name. For instance, if you add an Inscribed Rune of Minor Vigor on an Tyrian Armor, it will display the name "Radiant Tyrian Armor." In the hover display, an inscription will appear as an Inscribed weapon.
Glyphs

Sets
